DOG SCULPTURE
Over the 2 days of the festival artist Akane Takayama will install
up to 500 DOG models within the site. This public art installation will provide a spectacular focus to the afternoon, at the end of each afternoon the audience will be invited to take a model home and thereby “own their share of the installation.”

Alongside this public art will be displayed the work of local primary school children. The artist has been delivering workshops to these children in model making. The concept behind this work is to show the children how, even with simple resources, it is possible to create public art.

The artist has arranged for their work to go on public display in Bow Library and other local facilities as well as alongside her own installation. In this way the children will experience being public artists.

In a recent “field test” with a small sample of the DOG models there was an overwhelming public response. People were drawn from all over the park to come and see this small scale test piece. Children were enraptured, adults were full of questions and interest and all were taking photographs with mobiles and digital cameras. “This is totally amazing, I can't wait to see the full thing, it will be awesome!” commented Andy Benson who was in the park with his 8 year old daughter.

Over the last two years Akane Takayama has designed and tested the installation, made links with local organisations, councils and schools, prepared and delivered the workshops and most importantly set about constructing, in total, more than 700 DOG models.
