Exploring Temples and Nature in Cambodia

Angkor

The ancient city of Angkor with all its iconic temples and ruins is easily one of the reasons why millions of tourists flock to Siem Reap in Cambodia. But to anyone who has visited the country, there is more to the place than meets the eye. A Cambodia nature themed trip can be an exciting adventure filled with stunning surprises and discoveries. Nature travel or not, here are some of the best things to do to explore beyond the country’s famous temples into a more intimate look at some of its natural attractions.

1. Catch the sunrise at Angkor Wat. This is a must-do for most tourists. It may get a bit crowded with many making the early trip to the ancient site to watch the sunrise. But the view and experience make it worth your time. Some of the best spots to see it are near the pond in front of the main temple and at Angkor Hill among others.

2. Explore Angkor Thom and marvel at its ancient structures. Bask in the sunlight as you take a walk at one of the causeways leading to the entry tower and see the 54 stone figures flanking each side.

3. Experience the otherworldly beauty of Ta Prohm that sits fairly untouched in the midst of a lush jungle. The site, which is said to date back to about the middle of 12th century, has a surreal charm. Here nature has become part of the ancient structures with tree branches, roots, and trunks intertwining with ruins.

4. Discover the country’s many unspoiled beaches including the ones on the island of Koh Rong.
